SFO Founder & Leader
Mike actually started on Keyboards at the age of 8.
Although, he would be the first person to tell you
that he didn't really learn all that much ... except for
his smokin' rendition of Kumbaya! He was fascinated
by his teacher, who was blind.

It was also around this time he saw an Earth, Wind &
Fire video (pre MTV) on the tube late one night
(back when TV was not on 24 hours a day) you
know, just before the national anthem and such. He
thinks it was the song 'September' ... that is what
made him decide on the Saxophone.
Mike is a classically trained 'reedman' ... playing the Sax, Clarinet & Flute. He
studied under Art Biehl as well as Bob Bergeson, who at the time was the Principle
Lakeside, the Brothers Johnson, etc. He has always wanted to play this style of
music so, it is only fitting that he is now the leader of a Funk band!

Mike also still performs with a local Concert Band. As for his day gig, he works in
the aviation field. He currently holds an FAA mechanics certificate with both
Airframe & Powerplant ratings. As well as being a Mechanic, Mike also holds a
pilots license.
Oboist for the Tacoma Symphony. He
has played in a variety of Concert & Jazz
bands in the area. During this time, he
had the privilege of sharing the stage with
musicians such as Gary Herbig, Chris
Vadala & Allen Vizzutti.

However, Mike grew up listening to
artists like Kool & The Gang, EWF, KC
& The Sunshine Band, Ohio Players,
