Bass Guitar
During the disco era of the late 70’s & the early 80’s, I was
assisting the DJ at church dances, and the incredible bass lines
on those records was making me itch to get my hands on a four
string. I asked my Dad if he would buy me a bass, but he told
me to learn guitar first, and if I got decent, then I could get a
bass.

Well, that was very discouraging because guitar was the last
instrument I wanted to play ... no offense, Cole!
In Middle School and High School, I tried keyboards, drums, several brass instruments,
guitar, and standup bass, before deciding that it would be better to be great at one
instrument, than to be mediocre at 8.

Finally, when I was 18, the bass player in my punk band borrowed my Casio keyboard
and left a P-bass copy that he had as a loaner while his bass was in the shop. It felt so
natural to me, that I broke up the band, because I didn’t want to touch a guitar ever
again!

I have never had any formal lessons, but have spent countless hours playing along with
records and everything on the radio. I have played in dozens of bands over the years of
many different styles, including a Who cover band, who's performances included all of
the typical on-stage antics as well as dressing the part!
